Date: March 4, 2017

Princess Noura University held a forum on “Childhood and the New Media” in Riyadh from 2-4 March 2017/-5 Jumada II 1438.

Prince Turki delivered his key-note speech on the first day of the forum, addressing the importance of media in present times, the effects of mass media on various aspects of life, and how it presents a source of compounded worry for children and youth. Media has assumed a controlling power in the lives of children and has many negative effects on them, such as: strengthening the tendency for isolation and violence; creating a virtual world detached from reality; behavioral deviance; family disintegration; the absence of close familial relationships; defiance of social, religious and family values; and the facilitation of child exploitation.

His Royal Highness called for the importance of providing in-depth research and studies that can clarify this phenomena, aiding in developing general policies to wisely deal with it, keeping our children from it while reinforcing their identity and social and religious values, developing and enhancing education, as well as curricula and teaching methodology, developing Dawaa for it to answer to such pressing contemporary matters, developing state legislation and a legal structure that will limit the risks of  messages that endanger our new generation.
