On Thursday, December 19, 2024, on the occasion of the World Arabic Language Day, the King Faisal Center for Research and Islamic Studies (KFCRIS) and the Abdullah bin Idris Cultural Center held a seminar entitled “How Can Artificial Intelligence Serve the Arabic Language?”
The seminar was held in presence of HRH Prince Turki AlFaisal, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the KFCRIS and Dr. Ziyad Idris, the Secretary-General of the Abdullah bin Idris Cultural Center.
The speakers were Prof. Hend Al-Khalifa (King Saud University;an expert on Al and automatic Arabic language processing; Head of theiWAN Research Group) and Dr. Bandar Al-Ghamiz (King Saud University; aresearcher in the field of applied linguistics).
The seminar discussed the relationship between AI and the Arabic language, focusing on enhancing digital Arabic content, bridging the technical gap, and addressing challenges such as limited resources and insufficient contextual understanding in AI applications. The seminar also explored the use of modern technology to preserve the Arabic language and the development of AI-based tools to teach and simplify it for non-native speakers, with a focus on promising opportunities in the future and existing challenges.
