When Faisal set out for Europe he was only 13 years old. This encounter with the world’s most powerful nations gave Faisal his first taste
of international affairs and inspired the young prince. On his return
to Arabia, he helped his father build their country, which became
the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Faisal became king of Saudi Arabia in 1964 and, as a key Arab and Islamic leader, he became one of the most important figures in the 20th century. His great legacy continues to be felt in Saudi Arabia
and around the world.
This exhibition follows Faisal’s journey through seven chapters, inspired by the destinations he visited during his 1919 journey. Each chapter presents Faisal’s experiences and explores how this journey affected the young prince, informing his character, the way he led
his life, and his future impact on Saudi Arabian and world history. The exhibition also features three audio-visual stops where particular aspects of Faisal’s
life are presented in interviews with those who knew Faisal.
