Dr. Dania Qulailat Al-Khatib, Arab-American Relations specialist with a Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Exeter, UK 2014, stressed that Gulf countries have not been successful in forming an effective lobby in the United States. On Sunday, 2/1/1438 H (3/10/2016), King Faisal Center for Research and Islamic Studies hosted a closed seminar, to discuss the center’s recently published study in English and Arabic as part of its Dirasat series titled (How Should the Arab World Start a Lobby?). The seminar was attended by officials and Diplomats from the Gulf and several political science professors. In the seminar, Dr. Al-Khatib demanded that one of the Arab countries should take the initiative and call upon other Arab countries to undertake certain duties in the framework of the desired lobby policy. She also stressed the need to separate lobby building efforts from each country’s specific policies, pointing out the necessity of involving Arab American grassroots base and reinforcing their self-confidence; explaining that lobby efforts should focus on research and realistic goals. Al-Khatib emphasized the need for creating a lobby today more than ever after Oil losing its strategic value, changes in the general state of mind in the US towards isolationism, and Washington’s dispensing with its need for Gulf states to curb Iran’s behavior.
