On Sunday, February 9, 2025, the King Faisal Center for Research and Islamic Studies (KFCRIS) organized a discussion session entitled "Petrodollar to Digital Yuan: China, the Gulf, and the 21st Century Path to De-Dollarization." This event discussed the report by Diana Choyleva, in collaboration with the Center for China Analysis at the Asia Society Policy institute, which shared the same title.
The report explores economic and technological transformations and their impact on energy trade and global financial systems. It emphasizes China’s increasing influence in creating innovative financial instruments like the digital yuan and the mBridge platform. The report also delves into the opportunities and challenges that Gulf countries face in aligning with Vision 2030’s objectives, particularly Saudi Arabia.
HRH Princess Maha bint Mohammed AlFaisal, Secretary-General of KFCRIS, delivered the welcoming speech, followed by the opening speech by Dr. Abdullah Hamidaddin, Assistant Secretary-General for Scientific Affairs at KFCRIS.
The session was delivered by Ms. Diana Choyleva, a Senior Fellow on Chinese Economy at the Asia Society Policy Institute's Center for China Analysis and a leading expert on China’s economy and politics. The session was attended by numerous researchers, experts, and specialists in economics, investment, international relations, and strategic studies.
